JOSE LUIS SANCHEZ-CRESPO
José Luis Sánchez-Crespo is a member of the Select Committee on Professional
Statistics at the National Institute for Statistics and he has been General Subdirector of
Sampling and Census at this Institute for 10 years. He has developed a great activity at the
field of the International technical service and cooperation, specially for the World Health
Organization (WHO) of the United Nations (1960-66) a period in which he directed surveys in the
Latin American, Africa, Oriental Mediterranean countries and from its headquarters in Geneva. He
was an elect member of the Council of the International Association of Survey Statisticians
(1973-75). The World Health Organization contracted out him in order to achieve a Sampling
Seminar in Bogota (1976), and to do a research on Analysis of systems on Living Statistics and
Public Health in Mexico (1977).
He was Chairman of the Nominating Committee of the International Association
of Survey Statisticians (IASS), an office for which he was elected during the 41th Session of
the International Statistics Institute (Nueva Delhi, 1977). He was guest professor during the
first Session on Sampling held at the Metropolitan Autonomous University in México (1978) and
during the Statistics Meetings at the Central University in Venezuela (Caracas, 1978). He was
developed several series of lectures at the Statistics State Committee in Cuba and at the
University of La Habana (1979). He was guest exponent during the 42th Session of tne ISI
(Manila, 1979). He was guest professor at the University of Sao Paulo (Brasil, 1980) for the
second Session of the Latin-American Committee on Sampling. He was Chairman of the Programme
Committee of the IASS for the Session of the International Statistics Institute (ISI) in 1981
(Buenos Aires). He was Vice-Chairman of the Programme Coordinating Committee of the ISI during
the Session held in Madrid (1983).
He is Professor of Mathematical Statistics at the Faculty of Economic and
Enterprising Sciences of the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is Vice-President of the Bureau
of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) (1983-85). He is a member of the
Terminology Committee of the IASS.
JACQUELINE FOURASTIÉ
Jacqueline Fourastié was born in France in 1937. She is Agrégée in Mathematics
and Doctor in Sciencies too. After some years as teacher in the secondary education she began to
work in a Statistical Service for the Ministère de l'Education Nationale. Since 1963 she teaches
Mathematics and Statistics to the economists of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers
(university center for wage-earner people). She answers of "Services de Concours du Secrétariat
General á l'Enseignement Catholique ", too. She has written several books and articles on
researching, "Les Formules d'indices de prix (l966), "Essai sur la Mesure des quantités
économiques" (1973) and as colabourer of Jean Fourastié she has written "Pouvoír d'achat,
prix et salaires" (1976), "La réalité économique" (1977). She has also written, alone or as
colabourer, fifteen school and university handbooks, the last one is "Les indices statistiques",
(with the collaboration of B. Grais, 1984).
At present she is Assistant Director at the Laboratory of the Conservatoire
National des Arts et Métiers.
